new camper on
the scene
I had the opportunity today to check
over Exodus Campers, a new camper trailer on the market which is being
manufactured here in Newcastle.
Owner/builder Ian Simpson is a long time yacht/boat builder & the one
piece fibreglass camper shell shows this fact as it carries a nautical
theme throughout. A feature of a one piece shell is there are no joins &
so no leaks.
The hard roof is hinged at the front
& easily set up by undoing two clips. There is ample ventilation here with
the full rear area of the canvas unzipping to a mesh screen.
The side opening double bed has a
hard floor as well as a hard top with a large screened end in the canvas.
Inside the camper the yachting craftsmanship shows through with wood
features & trim.
The campers shell sits on a locally
manufactured bulletproof hot dipped galvanised box trailer with rebound
leaf suspension. Ian has found this suspension to be very reliable after
years of camper trailer building, although independent suspension is
something that could develop if the market is there.
There is a large storage box on the front with a jerry can holder
each side. One side of the front locker is large enough to store a
portable toilet.
The kitchen slides out from the
right front corner of the camper with a retractable hose for washing up.
Lighting is LED with one halogen
inside for reading.
There are two models. One has a double & two single beds set up as bunks,
while the other has just the double bed with kitchenette/eatery which
would be ideal for a couple.
For more information please feel free to contact Ian at
Exodus Campers
& let him
know you are a member of the group.
