Mud Flaps ?

Post by sparkiecol » Wed Apr 22, 2015 4:54 pm

My CT came without mud flaps.
I always thought that it was courtesy to have mud flaps so as the vehicle following doesn't get showered with road rubbish from your vehicle.
I also know its a pain backing up and ripping the buggers off!
To have mud flaps or not, that is my question?

Fit chain or similar from the bottom of the mudflaps up to the trailer , behind the guard, so they cant get pushed onto the wheel when you reverse..... Lots of trucks etc do it .....

All trailers must be fitted with mudflaps as per building small trailers national code of practice section 17

Ovesco have a good range of mud flaps far cheaper than 4wd accessory shops.

Hi Geoff,

Apparently a sample camper trailer from a manufacturer is only needed to be presented to the road & traffic authorities for inspection over the pits for registration of a make & model. The following camper trailers are then only required to be put over a weighbridge & then registered & do not have to go over the pits. The rest are considered to be of equal standard. So unless no mud flaps are picked up at the yearly rego inspection (as some campers & states require) they could easily go without mud flaps.

Hi. Rob.

Some weird things happen in Trailer world it appears.

A certain company which under weigh their Trailers , and everybody knows , but no action from RMS or whoever.

And the strange situation as you have pointed out where only the initial trailer is inspected and then it is trust that the rest are built and supplied exactly the same.

I'm beginning to think if an industry needs to be looked at then Camper trailer building should be at the top of the list.

I also sorted out the Solar panel problem I posted earlier , controller problem , Projecta were great , supplied replacement parts. .

Cheers Geoff.

Thanks for all your replies.
Yes the trailer is new, I registered it in Queensland, all the transport inspector wanted to do was to run a tape over the rig, that's it!
(I'm not sure why I didn't require a Safety Certificate, after all how does the transport mob know whether my brakes were working, lights, mud flaps etc.., etc..)
I did have paper work from the importer highlighting how the CT complied with QMT regs, obviously all they need.

Regardless, I will now be adding mud flaps!
Thanks again, Col.
