Storage ideas please

Post by Scott01 » Fri Jan 22, 2016 4:37 pm

Hi All, just after some tips on making best use of storage.
My wife and young bloke are heading to Uluru/Alice for 5 weeks in total via Flinders Ranges and Oodnadatta track in June this year. We will be overnighting sometimes and camped up in the one place for 5 nights or so along the way, so we kinda need to get ourselves a bit better organised.
Our camper is an Outback Camper – Newell. The trailer body walls are built out over the wheel guards for increased internal storage and it has a large toolbox for storage. We have had it for 4 years and love it but most of our trips have been 3 – 14 days in the one spot so we didn’t have to be that organised.
I’m thinking of getting 50 litre tubs from Bunnings, one for each of us then another for food plus – thinking being that square/rectangle is best for internal space. I will be looking to keep the area on top of the camper fairly clear for the quick overnight stop over. Toolbox area for battery, ropes etc (potential wet/dirty stuff). Engel and basic food for food on the run in the back of the Jeep.
Any thoughts or further tips?

Hi Tony,

We started out with storage tubs in the trailer, but quickly found that the item you wanted was always on the one the furthest in, so we had to drag the rest out & put them on the ground. There was just too much lifting going on.

I made up two ply boxes to carry all the gear that pull out onto the tailgate http://www.robcaz.net/newcanvas9.JPG with a simple large thumbscrew to hold the pipe leg in place.

Originally I glued carpet on the bottom of the draws so the hot dipped gal would not be broken. Recently I put some telfon boat strips on the trailers the bottom & they slide as if they were on wheels http://www.campertrailers.org/group/vie ... ?f=8&t=330

You will find a few other ideas for draws on the tech tips page under the storage & kitchen headings like Brian's trailer trolley http://www.campertrailers.org/trailer_trolley.htm or Des's cargo draws in his Outback Stuart http://www.campertrailers.org/cargo_draws.htm
happy camping
