Hi Clarkie,

I would assume you are taking about portable air coolers that can be used on 12volt when bush camping.

If you type DIY air conditioner into Google you will find a number of ideas like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITtlxjvLQis

Companion have a mini evaporative cooler fan that can be powered directly from 240volt or 12volt & also run via the internal rechargeable batteries, however you cannot recharge the battery & also run the fan on an external power source at the same time http://outdoor.companionbrands.com.au/i ... 1383282878

There is also the Transcool https://transcool.info/

The majority of heat comes though the roof via the sun. Another canvas suspended above the campers roof is called a tropical roof & makes a huge temperature difference to the inside of camper. Also members have said the inside of their camper trailer is a lot cooler using a quality silver tarp, even more so if there was an air gap http://www.campertrailers.org/spreader_bar_support.htm While others use a solar blanket http://www.campertrailers.org/solar_blanket.htm

We usually head for a shady tree on a hot day. The roof on our new canvas was made buy All Terrain Campers a few years ago & incorporates an opening roof area over the bed. This has worked very well allowing the hot air to escape. We have found by opening both doorways on each end of the camper & lifting the side walls of the awning, it creates a breezeway, making a cooling effect on a hot day http://www.robcaz.net/morettpics39.JPG

If you are camping on a powered site in a caravan park there are several 240volt compact evaporative coolers on the market.
happy camping
