Places to Camp between Cobar and Broken Hill

Post by cubbers » Mon Apr 07, 2014 4:26 pm

We are planning a trip to the Flinders Ranges in early October this year and are looking for suggestions for places to camp between Cobar and Broken Hill, all the better if there are wheelchair accessible facilities (but not essential) and the option to stay more than one night. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers John & Carol

Try Meadow Glen Rest Area - https://goo.gl/maps/2Du4C - about 60k west of Cobar and 15k past the turnoff for Mount Grenfell Historic Site. Room to get your own spot amongst the trees and back from the highway. Toilet is accessible.

Or Coach and Horses Campground in Paroo-Darling National Park - https://goo.gl/maps/EUlEZ - about 45k off the highway 5k before Wilcannia - a beautiful spot right on the Darling River

A new facility has opened just outside Wilcannia - Warrawong Station. We stayed there for a night in July - options are caravan park type sites (powered or unpowered) or bush camp by the Darling River. They have the best ablution block I have ever used. With your wheelchair requirement I reckon a caravan site would be the go.

Check them out at http://www.warrawongonthedarling.com.au.

Haven't been on the forum in a while, so just found a couple of very helpful replies to our request for info about accessible places bet cobar & broken hill. Thanks to all for the info. We did in fact stay at Warrawong on our way to Flinders Ranges last year and it was very good. We will include the other places in our ref. list of accessible places and will check them out on our next trip - out west. Cheers Carol & John.
