river camp weekend
Saturday 20th to Sunday 21st January, 2018
Twenty-five couples attended the
Australian CamperTrailers weekend with quite a few arriving on Thursday and
some staying on until Tuesday. As we had been camping at the River Camp
since the middle of December we were able to get those attending camping in
basically two groups. Half the group camping on or near the waterfront and
the rest establishing camp towards the centre in their own area. These
members formed their ring of trailers and a password was required to enter.
Apparently one of the “river group“ penetrated the barrier at one stage and
sabotaged Mal’s new Lifestyle Van. This forced him to drive to Brisbane to
get a new kitchen.
Camp managers Elaine and Henry kindly
allowed us to erect a Marquee on a water front so that all could enjoy the
breeze and a view of the water. The weather was in fact too good and a fire
ban was installed for three of the days. This meant that the annual Bar-b-que
dinner was changed to nibbles and drinks on the river—a quick run back to
the vans to cook dinner and then a return to tables under and around the
marquee for dessert. Although not perfect this seemed to work well for all
the campers.
People enjoyed going into Hawks Nest
and Tea Gardens with a large group even taking on Aqua aerobics at the local
pool. Most also enjoyed a swim in the river to get out of the heat.
As this camp was in the school
holidays it was a little busier than usual but most seemed to survive
without too much trouble. Comments on this would be appreciated for future
river camps.
Our thanks to all who attended and it
was great to see new members Bruce and Peta, Darren and Kylie fit in and
seemingly enjoy the established members. It was also great to catch up with
Capt. Rob and Carol who made a day visit as he is slowly getting back to
good health.
To those going to Tasmania we wish you
a great and safe trip and anyone with photos can add them to this report.
