Riverwood Downs NSW members meet near Dungog NSW held on the weekend of Saturday 12th to Sunday 13th May 2007
22 camper trailers attended the Groups weekend get together held at Riverwood Downs Mountain Valley Resort located between Dungog & Stroud NSW hosted by Rob & Carol. A few turned up early around lunchtime Thursday, with some staying on till the Tuesday. The weather was mild with T-shirts only during the day, however the fire was very welcome at night when the temperature dropped at dark. It was great to catch up with our old CamperTrailers friends who we have met through the group as well as meeting a few more new faces of members who we have been typing to via the group as well. Gus, Jill, Clancy & Jayden drove from Moree arriving in spectacular fashion around midnight Friday night with driving lights lighting up the heavy fog like an alien space craft in a scene from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Jayden asked what the funny looking stuff was floating in the air. Richard & Leonie drove from near Canberra to attend their second meet, while Gloucester locals Brian & Terry dropped in for the day on Sunday to say hi to many of the faces that have become familiar. A large central area was kept open around the campfire for everyone to gather & meet & for the kids to play. Gus was a little taken back to see green grass & dew under his feet after many years of drought in Moree western NSW. By Saturday afternoon everyone had arrived & a big fire was started at happy hour to produce enough coals for the many camp ovens to cook tea that night. The fire turned out not to be big enough as we soon ran out of coals with around a dozen camp ovens sitting in a ring skirting the fire. It was hear said that the Sydney Flyer used less coals. Everyone did manage to cook a variety of meals in the camp ovens from stews to roasts. The aroma filled the air as each lid was lifted to check the cooking contents. After eating tea it was the usual Saturday night sit round the campfire with plenty of laughter thrown in. Thanks to Sharon for giving everyone glow sticks & to Julie for providing the sparklers. Some had to head off on Sunday for home & work. While a few headed for the restaurant for a Mothers Day tea, others once again cooked on the campfire. Thanks to everyone for chipping in on the firewood & providing plenty of laughter around the campfire. Quotes of the weekend.....
