1 to 8 Assigned by law for receiving from Repeaters. If the radio is set to Duplex on, when on Ch 1 you will Transmit on Ch 31 to access the Repeater and receive on Ch 1 . If set to Ch 1 with Duplex off (i.e. Simplex), you will Transmit and Receive on Ch 1. If you get no reply to a call when Duplex is On, try with Duplex Off (or vice versa).

You will hear people transmitting on Ch 5 directly to you, or from people transmitting via a Ch 5 Repeater (if they're set to Ch 5 Duplex and both of you are in range of the Repeater). If you get no reply to a call when Duplex is On, try with Duplex Off (or vice versa).
