atkinson
dam weekend
from
Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th November 2024
The Queensland Australia
CamperTrailers Group members arrived for the second visit to Atkinsons Dam
for 2024 although it was much hotter during our stay than when we met in
May. It would have to be the first time in all the visits to the venue that
we did not light one fire. Even the boys, Les and Ray did their cooking with
heat beads instead of coals.
Members came and went over the duration of the week with some leaving early
due to the heat, some leaving in case of the storms that were forecast over
much of Queensland. We were very lucky as the storms seemed to go around us
leaving a couple of nights with small showers which was great as it made for
cooler conditions. It was amazing to see how the grass appreciated the rain
watching it go green overnight.
We made use of the undercover area for the morning tea get together on the
Saturday with day visitors Peter and Karyn. This area was also used one
afternoon to play some games while others went for drives to visit friends
in the area or just to drive to make use of the cars air conditioner. Thick
shaded tree coverage was also put to good use to keep cool.
On Monday, Les did a communal roast lamb dinner for the six stayers and
helped by Matt doing veggies in the Webber. We made use of the undercover
area for this occasion as well. The following night being four stayers,
Lindsay and I were also spoiled having a two course pork dinner theme cooked
by Ray. A pork and noodle dish and pork belly with crackle to die for.
Thanks to John and Penny, Greg and Kerry, Ian and Dianne, Matt and Wendy ,
Greg and Lisa, Ray along with Les for coming to camp at Atkinsons and we
look forward to the next group outing.
