atkinson
dam weekend
from
Saturday 8th to Sunday 9th November 2025
Hosting Atkinsons Dam in November for
us in the last couple of years has been the end of a journey and a wind down
time from travelling on the road. 2025 saw us doing a 56 day journey via the
National meet at Ariah Park and 4730 kilometres. 2024 was a 5 month 17,000
plus journey via Western Australia and a few states in between.
We arrived nice and early on the Wednesday for our week stay along with
Kevin and Kath as we stayed the night before at their new home which is a
short distance from Atkinsons.
The grounds were a pleasure to camp on once again and the dam being at 93
percent full gave us such an amazing view from anywhere camped on the
grounds. The bird life on the dam was amazing, we have never seen so many
pelicans.
We welcomed three lots of day visitors on the Friday, Peter and Karyn who
are waiting to move to new accommodation and living in their van, Ian and
Dianne who not long had come home from Japan and Greg and Lisa who arrived
home from overseas the day before. Thank you all for coming to the morning
come afternoon tea and dinner a day earlier than normal as Lindsay and I had
to leave everyone to look after themselves on the Saturday so that I, Robyn
could go and enjoy special family time to celebrate my Aunts 100th birthday.
Something not to be missed.
A very warm welcome to first timers, Greg with a custom trailer and Ruth
with a Cub forward fold trailer the only members with canvas although they
knew the group was full of knowledge as all previously coming from canvas
life. It was also great to catch up with long time full travellers in the
group Gary and May who had their new van to try out. Lindsay and I have
caught up with these members on our travels in Vic, NT and Outback Qld and
just missed seeing them in WA in 2024.
On behalf of Lindsay and I, we would like to thank Rick and Carol, Mike and
Robyn, Chig and Kathryn, Greg and Kerry, Alister and Lynette and camping
members previously mentioned for coming along to join us at one of our
favourite spots to camp that is close to home and we wonder where we will be
coming from in 2026 to do it all again.
Cheers to being outdoors in whatever you wish to camp in.
