atkinson's
dam weekend
Saturday 25th to Sunday 26th May, 2013
Despite the
forecast rain we had a good roll up of around 16 campers/vans/tents
and their owners and dogs. We welcomed a couple of new campers to
the group, some who had travelled a few kilometres to join us, as
well as Ian and D'sley who were returning from the Flinders Ranges
CamperTrailers Group week long meet and Peter and Chris who are on a
12 month holiday and happened to be in the area. Matt and Wendy also
boosted our numbers with their daughter and her family, and her
parents - four generations all camping together.
It was also nice to see a few of the campers had friends in the area
who dropped in to enjoy our view of the dam, and the fabulous
sunshine that favoured us. The site ran into the dam itself so a
number of the more active members were able to launch their kayaks
and paddle around (or peddle in the case of Carol's Hobie craft).
The birdlife on and around the dam was plentiful and added to the
ambiance of the site.
Shirley McClure (Wendy's mum) presented a
delicious home made fruit cake for morning tea. Many asked
Shirley about the recipe which Matt obtained and typed up.
It was lovely to find a new place to camp and the sunny weather and
good company made the weekend disappear all too quickly.
