Canungra Scout Camp
The Australian Day camp was a nine day
event this year at Gum Flat, Canungra Scout Ground. Attendees did the usual
working bee over the first few days, including clearing a very overgrown
track down to the river swimming hole. The good winter rain combined with
recent and ongoing summer rains had swollen the river from its usual lazy
pace. A couple of lucky people sighted not one but two platypus in the river
this year!
Because of the duration of the camp campers came and stayed for as long as
their busy lives allowed, giving the nightly campfire a changing 'roll
call'. Due to the inclement weather we decided it was a good idea to plan a
group 'gathering' each day at 4pm - under the Den verandah when it was
raining or in the shade when it was sunny. It's always good to catch up on
everyone's news and travels so conversation was never quiet. Aside from that
activity some people took day trips to Binna Burra, O'Reilly's Rainforest,
visited friends locally, dined at the local pub and enjoyed the pies from
the bakery.
Although there weren't any new faces this year there were some campers that
we hadn't seen for some time. New trips have been added to bucket lists and
new vehicles and camp set-ups inspected. In spite of the rain we had a great
time and look forward to doing it all again next year!
Huge thanks to our working bee members for their time and effort.
