Eaglehawk Camping Weekend

The Rotary Club of Wingham invites you join them at the annual Weekend in the Wild at Eaglehawk on 12, 13 and 14 October. Eaglehawk, owned by the Machin family of Wingham, is a 6,500 acre beef cattle and timber property located between Walcha and Wauchope off the Oxley Highway, on the Cells and Rowley rivers.

This event is one of the major fundraising activities each year for the club, with in excess of $7000 being raised last year. Major beneficiaries of this years’ event will be Dundaloo Hostel and the Rotary Lodge attached to the Oncology Unit at Port Macquarie Hospital.

Dave Elith will provide the entertainment on Friday night and The Red Cedar Band on Saturday night. Walk up artists are encouraged. An auction will be held on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning with native plants, various timber products, clothing, artwork, wine and many other items available. Camp fires burn continuously. Archery, novelty events, yabby races and bush poetry all prove very popular. A treasure hunt will take place on Saturday morning, especially for children. The BBQ lunch on Saturday will be held at the Cells River with the duck race being a feature again this year. Local artist, Ron Hindmarsh will complete a painting during the weekend which will be auctioned.

The Rotary Club will be selling raffle tickets, which will be drawn on the Sunday morning. First prize is a jacaranda mantle clock, second prize a camphor laurel lazy susan and third prize a blackbutt and cypress pine bread board. These items were produced locally by the Manning Valley Woodworkers.

Whilst it is called a Weekend in the Wild, the facilities include flushing toilets (1 Female & 1 Male) and hot showers (2). The cost is $60 per adult, $30 per child 12 to 16 years of age and children under 12 are free. This amount covers all your meals from Friday night to Sunday lunch. All you need to take is something to sit on, somewhere to sleep and crockery. Camping fees are payable at the time of booking. Numbers are limited so book early by using the attached registration form.

The unsealed road into the property off the Oxley Highway is suitable for 2WD, caravans and trailers. There is plenty of camping sites but no powered sites. Maps and directions will be provided to those attending the weekend.

Anyone wanting more information about the weekend can ring Richard Wheatley on his mobile 0429 158 169 or email rvw13@yahoo.com.au or Libby Evans at Machin’s Sawmill on 02 65 534 422 during business hours.
