We fitted a replacement entertainment system,
That includes a reverse camera and option for second camera on camper
As well as DVD,CD, on road and off road GPS, blue tooth phone, and much more..

Very good service and our unit is over 4 years old now and still going strong...

Maybe another option to consider

I am thinking of buying an "in car mounted video recorder" to record some trips While traveling the vast spaces of our country, I searched the forum and found no threads about in car video recorder. so hope someone on here has had some prior knowledge or experience with these sorts of product!

Hi Matthew, and welcome to the forum.

During a road trip across USA in 2012, I just used a Sony HDR-CX190E hanging from a camera clamp suctioned to the wind screen.

https://www.hama.com/00004040/hama-univ ... era-clamp-

(Not this particular one, but similar) Actually, just found the box, it was that make/model.....cost me $250.00 at Fletchers at the time....

I now have a dash cam set up in the ute which will record up to 9 hrs video on one memory card.

You would need to transfer the footage to a lap top each day if you went that way.

IMO, any good dash cam will record your trip for you..

I have an ebay wireless camera and screen in my D2. I had one in my previous Range rover and it was trouble free for many years.

One of the reasons is the difficulty of passing RCA plugs through the conduit that goes from the rear door to the body on a Disco.

I find it to be fine for purposes of reverse parking and hitching the camper.

One problem I have found is that the receiver and screen are on all the time in my case, as who wants to have an extra switch?

I have mounted my screen behind the Rear view mirror and my receiver sits on a shelf above the windscreen and this has caused me problems.
The receiver failed and I was able to buy another full kit for $30 as they seem to be generic. This enabled me to trouble shoot by swapping components. I fitted a second receiver and then went to a wedding in the Hunter valley where the temperature exceeded 40C. It seems that this temperature or more near the roof plus the operating temperature of the receiver exceeded its design specs and it failed from the temperature of the resistor that drops voltage from 12v to 5 volts. This is even though it is supposed to be good for 80C.
I had a look at the receiver and the body was melted from heat near the dropping resistor.
So I bought a third receiver . I now have fitted a heat sink consisting of a bit of aluminium angle attached with a zip tie and with heat conductive paste and it seems to be lasting.
Another thing to remember when buying these things is that in my case where I tow a camper trailer on dirt is that the camera gets a hard time from rocks and dirt rebounded from the trailer and the plastic lens can become semi opaque.
So IMHO it is better to get cheap and cheerful than expensive if you can do the work yourself.
BTW I rarely have interference from other reversing cameras.
