Re: 14 0z canvas
Hi Greg,
This is a great link I have had in my favourites list for some time that explains everything about the confusion of canvas weights https://www.canvasthings.com.au/index_002.htm
The original canvas on our camper trailer had 10oz walls & 12oz roof Australian made Bradmill Canvas & was lightweight & easy to handle, especially lifting up onto the trailer & dragging it over the top when packing up.
The new canvas we had custom made is all 14oz Australian made Wax Converters canvas. It is heavy to lift onto the trailer when packing up, so I came up with this idea, making it so much easier https://www.campertrailers.org/floor_packup.htm
There is no difference in the canvas waterproofing quality between the older lighter canvas & the heavier new canvas, but the weight does make a difference when it comes to packing up.
I have noticed that camper trailers which use imported 14oz ripstop canvas is not as a heavy weight as the Australian made 14oz canvas is. While not mentioned in the above link I did read somewhere that the imported ripstop was weighed after waterproofing & the Australian made canvas was weighed before waterproofing?
Hope this helps.
