Hi Billy,

I presume you are referring to the Treg / Trigg style hitches?

We have the Trigg & are quite happy with the performance of it & have never had any issues hitching up or unhitching the trailer. Ours cam with the camper (9 years ago), so cannot comment on cost.

You can purchase the Treg coupling from Treg Trailers in Underdale SA

The Trigg coupling can be purshased from Trigg Brothers in Forrestville SA

Depending on what you are after, both makes range from weld-on & bolt-on models used for no brakes (trailers weighing under 750kg) & also for electric brakes, to mechanical & hydraulic overrider versions.

There are cheap imported copies appearing on the market that are not ADR approved, so in the case of an accident you may void your insurance & vehicle or camper trailer warranty. The standards state the coupling must be marked with the manufacturers name or trademark, the maximum allowable load or ATM it is rated for & the model name.

When unhooking the trailer it is best to place a flat board around say 300mm square under the jockeywheel, especially on soft ground, so you can move the coupling around to fit the Tpin back in. Also when disconnecting the pin it is easier to remove if you take the pressure off both the vertical & horizontal planes.

If you are on a slope you may find the pin is hard to pull out, so you can put the trailers handbrake on & let the vehicle move back a fraction. When you drop the jockeywheel watch the poly block & as it lifts from the bottom of the U fitting there is no force on the pin.

After using a Treg for twenty years we didn't have much trouble with it in all that time, however when we put electric brakes on the trailer we bought a Vehicle Components DO35 which we found is a whole lot easier lining up.

If you do a Google you may find a local trailer manufacturer/spares or caravan parts supplier have either Trigg or Treg hitches in stock in your area. There is not much between the two, only the way the U bracket has been made.
