fitting out the new Campertrailer

I have an Aussie Swag camper on order and have been hunting around for items to fit it out. Thanks to Aldi I have a ramp and drinking water hose. Spirit T level from bunnings.

I am looking at 15 amp power leads, but unsure how long I need to get. Having always camped in a tent I have paid no attention to how far the powered sites are from the park outlets. the choice seems to be 10 or 20 mts. As they are quite thick I dont want to carry the larger one if not needed.

As I would expect to keep the trailer connected to power in the garage to trickle charge the batteries, how do I do that when the connections are 15 amp and the home sockets are 10 amp. Is there some sort of adapter?

Any other suggestions on other equipment and modifications would be appreciated. It is not due for a few months so I have plenty of time.

Hi Gary,

If the plug on the 240volt battery charger is not easily accessible at home for connection to the garage 10amp power point, you have two options connecting to the 15amp caravan inlet. First is to have an electrician install a 15amp power point close to where your camper trailer is kept.

The other is an Ampfibian which safely & legally connects the 15amp inlet on your camper to a standard 10amp domestic powerpoint, protecting the domestic power supply from overloading.

Made up 10amp to 15amp adapter leads are illegal.

When we built the new garage I had two 15amp power points included along with a few 10amp.

We bought a twenty metre long 15amp lead for use at a few national meets after Carol got her Cpap & before we setup the 12volt system. You know what will happen if you buy a ten metre lead.... it will be short one end

We also have the Jaycar portable RCD adapter. Works well, and not very expensive. As we rarely use 240 volts the ampfibian seemed a bit expensive.

No it is only 10 amp not converting a 15 amp fitting.

Hi Matt,

The Bunnings portable safety switch allows you to plug into a 10amp power point & with all 10amp leads plugged into it covered by a 10amp breaker.

The Jaycar mains plug conversion allows you to plug into a 10amp power point & plug in your 15amp lead, which will only be able to draw 10amps. That means you can plug the mains plug conversion unit into your 10amp power point at home & then plug your 15amp caravan park lead with a large earth pin into the unit & into the camper. Although the camper has a 15amp breaker, you cannot overload your 10amp house circuit by drawing over 10amps via the Jaycar mains plug conversion.

Our lead is 15-20M. this can be long at times, but there has also been times when we have needed the extra length. We store our lead in this plastic round disc thing that you wrap the cord around. Easy to use and saves on storage space. I can't think of the name and it's not here for me to look at it. I can see what it's called tonight if you want.

We also use a hose bag for the water hose, again saves on the room the hose normally takes up. They also do a storage bag for power leads. http://www.thehosebag.com.au/page/about ... e_bag.html
