Hi All,
This is part of what this group is all about, in my opinion...
I got an excited phone call from Will Kember last night to let me know that the Ganmain Show Trust had been nominated by Coolamon Shire Council for the Community Event / Community Group Australia Day Awards for the 2017 Australia Day Festivities.
For those that aren't aware, Will was one of the many helping hands that ensured that our 12th Annual National CamperTrailer Meet in Ganmain was the huge success that t was. Will and his tireless band of helpers, including Stephen Hatty and Barry Brill, amongst many others, coordinated the events from the Hosts perspective, which included organising a government grant to build a new amenities block at the showground for our event. Due to circumstances beyond their control, this grant was delayed & in the end they only had 3-4 weeks to fully construct these amenities once the grant was announced. For anyone keeping an eye on the weather in southern NSW in late August / early September, you would know that they were hit with severe rainfall, yet these guys managed to pull off the improbable & have these new amenities available for us.
According to the council website, this nomination is for the following:
Community Event of the Year: An event that attracts broad / large Community support and/or external visitation. A Community group may be a Club, Committee or Organisation that either organises a particular one-off event that has significant purpose within the Coolamon Shire or alternatively a Club, Organisation or Committee that has a record of significant achievement to the Community over many years.
So, in essence, The Coolamon Shire Council is recognising the Ganmain Show trust for their part in bringing a significant event to the council area & the hard work that they put into making it happen. Whether they actually win the award or not, I believe it is a great effort to get this far & I sincerely wish them all the best in the final voting.
Details of the Coolamon Shire Council awards can be found here... http://www.coolamon.nsw.gov.au/resident ... -2017.aspx and details of our annual meet at Ganmain can be found here: - http://www.campertrailers.org/ganmain16.htm
Also, Will advised me that the Ganmain Showground will soon be available as a low-cost camping area for anyone travelling through the region. It now has some great facilities which I am proud to say this group helped to achieve, so if you are passing through, it may well be worthwhile stopping the night (or 2) and taking in what the region has to offer. If you do, don't forget to check out the local businesses & treat yourself to a Ganmain Pie!
Cheers,
Jason
