CUB Camper - Faulty Slide Out Kitchen Water Pump.

Post by mcake » Wed Oct 12, 2016 3:31 pm

Hi All,

Very simple.

I slide the kitchen out, legs down, stabilize it etc.
When I go to pump the manual water pump to the sink it's very hard to pump.
It also is getting air in the line. I don't want to force it in case I break the pump
housing. I've checked the line back to the water tank and it doesn't appear to be
pinched at all. Also opened the hand pump housing, doesn't appear to be broken
but hard to tell. I don't know what is wrong with it and why it is so difficult to pump
out water from the tank.

Here's a link to a photo of the hand pump.

Any suggestions or checks I can do would be appreciated.

Regards,
Murray

Usually there will be a non return valve in the line somewhere and it may be this sticking partly closed.

Just realised the water tank underneath the camper does NOT have a breather hose/port
on top at all. This may account for a lot of back splash at the water inlet when I filled it last time.
Because I was getting water splashing back out, I thought it was full, but it wasn't. I'm wandering
also if due to no breather hose/port it's affecting the use of the hand pump an making it hard to
pump. Could be causing a vacuum inside the water tank ?

Note also I disconnected the hand pump and tested it in the kitchen using a deep saucepan,
it seems to work OK. So, it's probably either ) old/crappy hoses 2) no breather hose. Any thoughts ?

Hi Murray,

You will find filling the tank slow with air coming back out the same inlet without a breather. Most likely no breather would also cause slow handpump issues. Try tanking the filler cap off to see if it makesa difference???

Some inlets have a breather built into them. An article I did some time ago on water tank breathers http://www.campertrailers.org/breather.htm

Yep, thanks for the feedback.
I had a 60L tank upgraded to an 80L tank.
The tank only came with a filler port and a outlet port. No drain or breather.
Someone said that is standard these days. I don't know why that would be the
case. I had a drain elbow joint put on the filler hose recently not realizing at
the time that I may not have a breather port on the tank. Anyways, I'm going
to remove tank myself, install a proper breather hose and replace all hoses,
they're getting on a bit. Always good to talk to people who know what they're
talking about.
Thanks again.

If air is sucking into the pump there is a crack or a hose clamp not tight enough. Hope this helps.
