LiFePO4 lithium battery - IP67 rating folding solar blanket - IP64 rating

You will notice an IP rating on most camping items you buy. What does the rating mean? The rating numbers will depend on where the item can be placed or its intended use. IP ratings have a two digit code to show how dust & water resistant the item is with the higher numbers meaning the greater protection. It is worth checking the IP rating of items you use outdoors.

As an example.....

* A LiFePO4 lithium battery may have an IP67 rating. 6 gives it a dust tight rating while the 7 stands for temporary immersion in water. This battery would be suitable to be placed in a battery box on the side of the camper trailer.

* A 300 Watt folding solar blanket may have an IP64 rating. This means it is dust tight but can only be immersed in water temporarily. It cannot be left out in the rain.

* A 12volt pressure water pump may have an IP54 rating. It has limited dust protection & ok for water splashes. This pump needs to be mounted in a protected position & not under the camper trailer.

* A 12volt submersible water pump has an IP68 rating. It is dust tight, therefore no dust can enter the housing & can be continuously submerged in water under conditions specified by the manufacturer, ie depth & pressure.
