YOUR HOSTS for the weekend will be Dave Bulman with
support from Paul Mac and Annie.
WHEN. On the Melbourne Cup long weekend from Friday
29th October to Tuesday 2nd November.
WHERE. Jajarawong is a private property at Yandoit
(NW of Melbourne between Daylesford & Castlemaine). For over 20 years Jajarawong
had been a naturist bush retreat until January when it was sold into private
hands. IT IS NO LONGER A NATURIST RETREAT & the present
owners Mariana & Barry have very kindly made the 29 Ha property available for us
to camp.
GETTING THERE. If coming from Melbourne, head out
along the Western Hwy towards Ballarat. Near Ballan there is a turn north
towards Daylesford. At the second roundabout in Daylesford, turn towards
Castlemaine on the Midland Hwy (A300). Just out of Daylesford the hwy veers
left. About 12.8km out of Daylesford, turn left into Newstead Rd (c285) (Google
map shows part of this as Powell Connection Rd). Follow this road for ~6.1km
(total=18.9km), then turn left again) into Yandoit Creek Rd). Follow this for
another 3.5km (total=22.4km) to where the road does a sharp right (into Nevans
Rd). At this point there should be a “Jajarawong” sign in front of you. You
continue straight ahead along Yandoit Ck Rd for about another kilometer where
the entrance gate will on your left. Sign will then direct you to the campsite.
CAMPING. Bush camping with some facilities.
BOOKING. Pre-booking is not required but fees will
be collected by the host at camp. In the interests of courtesy, campers should
not arrive earlier than the Friday. If any one wishes to stay longer than the
Tuesday, it should be negotiated with the owner.
COST. $10.00 adults per night, children free. This
may be negotiable based on the extent of shower usage. The aim of the owners is
to collect a single group fee based on the number of campers and the number of
nights, rather than charge on a per person/night basis.
NUMBER OF CAMPERS. There will be some limits to
numbers attending. To make the camp viable for the owners we think that we
should try to get at least 10 camper trailers, but from space consideration we
may be limited to a maximum of 15-17 trailers.
THE ROAD. The road to the property is all bitumen &
suitable for all vehicles. There are good gravel roads on the property, some
moderately steep and maybe a little slippery if very wet.
WATER. Water is available.
CAMPFIRES. Campfires are allowed subject to
restrictions in force at the time and wood can be collected. There is plenty of
firewood available – suggest a chainsaw may be useful if used with discretion.
SHOWER. Showers are available, but are not private.
Likewise for the toilets. You may be wise to bring your own shower screen (I
will have a couple available) if you wish to use these facilities or bring your
own shower & toilet setup.
PETS. Dogs allowed & must be keep them on a leash
at all times.
RUBBISH.
Please take all rubbish home with you.

PLANNED ACTIVITIES.
None envisaged at this time, but if anyone has any interesting ideas,
competitions or games, we’ll give them serious thought.
THINGS TO DO AND SEE. There are plenty of things to
amuse the hoards. On site there local walks around the property in delightful
woodlands with abundant birds, kangaroos, etc. Swimming and yabbying are also
possible.
There are a number of dams on the
property. Some of these can be used for swimming or for catching the odd yabby.
Beyond the fences Daylesford (20mins),
Castlemaine (30-40mins) as well as any number of other local attractions are
within easy reach. For example, Google Daylesford, Casltlemaine, Newstead,
Hepburn, Macedon Ranges. Also Google “jajarawong” for further info (don’t worry
about any prices – they are likely not to be official)

Come sit &
relax with a bunch of like minded people. Check the modifications others have done to
their camper trailers to make camping life all that more enjoyable. You might
meet as complete strangers on the Friday evening, but will part old friends such
is the camaraderie.
You do not need a camper trailer to attend. Members without a camper are more
than welcome to come along & get a first hand unbiased opinion of a particular
camper trailer from their owners. Come along & meet the faces behind the typing.
You are also very welcome to drop in for the day.
Please keep in mind that the group owners will not accept any responsibility
for members & non-members actions during the weekend get together.
If you decide to attend, it is solely at your own responsibility, including any
side trips or outings during the weekend meet.
