WHERE.
Killalea State Park
is
on the NSW South Coast at Shellharbour, about 10 minutes north of Kiama and
about 25 minutes south of Wollongong.
WHEN. On the weekend of Saturday 22nd to Sunday
23rd August
2009.
CAMPING. We will be camping in an open caravan park
like setting with approx 10 minutes walk to Mystics Beach and 15 minutes walk
to the Minnamurra River. Natural features of the state park include sandy &
rocky shores, coastal dunes & heath, river frontage, tidal mangroves, freshwater
lagoon, subtropical and littoral rainforest remnants and an offshore island.
CAMPSITES. There are 50 campsites with around 30
suitable for camper trailers.
CAMPING FEES. $10 per adult per night & $30 per
site per night for a family of 2 adults and up to 3 children under
the age of 13 years.
MAKING ARRANGEMENTS. Please reserve your
campsite by booking with the Killalea State Park direct on Phone 02 4237

camping@killalea.com.au & then add your name to the poll so we can contact you with an
ice breaker e-mail. Credit card payments incur a credit card
transaction fee. Reservations are only confirmed on receipt of
payment & there are no refunds.
You will be sent a receipt
in the mail along with all relative information, park rules etc plus
the boom gate PIN code.
ENTRY. Automated boom gates prevent entry/exit between 8.45 pm and 4.30 am
without a PIN code access. PIN codes are available to authorised
campers on receipt of payment.
GETTING THERE. There are very good instructions on the
Killalea
website directions PDF download.
THE ROAD.
Suitable
for all vehicles including caravans & motorhomes.
POWER.
There are no powered sites.
WATER. Please bring your own drinking water. Bore
water not suitable for drinking.
CAMPFIRES. Campfires are allowed in the fire
places provided in each site. There is also a large communal
firepit.
FIREWOOD. Please bring some firewood along.
TOILETS. There are flushing toilets.
SHOWERS. Rainwater hot showers provided. Not
suitable for drinking.
DOGS. No dogs are allowed in the state park.
RUBBISH.
Bins provided.
FACILITIES. There is a camp kitchen
with electric BBQs, wash up area & undercover dining/seating.
Bagged firewood & ice available at the caretakers cottage between
10am to 4pm.
ACTIVITIES.
Popular recreational activities in the park include surfing,
fishing, bushwalking, birdwatching, canoeing, cycling & kayaking.
Please note that Killalea & Mystics beaches are not patrolled. Your
safety is your own responsibility.
No activities have been planned for the weekend. Come sit &
relax with a bunch of like minded people. Check the modifications others have done to
their camper trailers to make camping life all that more enjoyable. You might
meet as complete strangers on the Friday evening, but will part old friends such
is the camaraderie.
You do not need a camper trailer to attend. Members without a camper are more
than welcome to come along & get a first hand unbiased opinion of a particular
camper trailer from their owners. Come along & meet the faces behind the typing.
You are also very welcome to drop in for the day.
