victorian easter meet
Lake Tooliorook

Members are invited to attend the group get together at Lake Tooliorook in Victoria
If you would like to attend please add your name to the poll

An ice-breaker e-mail will be sent to the address you have registered your interest
in the poll two weeks before the meet. Please reply to confirm your attendance.
The icebreaker has been known to end up in your spam folder.

YOUR HOST for the long weekend will be Doug and Jeannie Ramsay.

WHERE. Lake Tooliorook is approximately 5 km out of Lismore, a small town located in an agricultural-pastoral area 165 km west of Melbourne on the Hamilton Highway.

WHEN. Easter long weekend from Friday 22nd April 2011 to Tuesday 26th April 2011. This includes the holiday in lieu of Anzac Day.

GETTING THERE. Turn south off the Hamilton Highway (B140) at Lismore towards Lake Tooliorook (sign posted) for approximately 5km and then turn right at the sign post to Lake Tooliorook along a dirt road for approximately 1km to the Lake. As you enter the camp ground, our reserved area will be on your left, opposite the toilet block.

GPS: 37°58’38.0”S – 143°17’05.0”E - Camps Australia Wide 4 and 5 Site No. Vic. 653

ON ARRIVAL. Please give Doug and Jeannie a call on UHF18 on arrival if you can, as we may have to manage camp sites depending on numbers.

THE ROAD. Bitumen all the way to the turn off, then approximately 1km of good dirt road.

BOOKING. Not required. Just add your name to the poll provided. Your hosts will confirm numbers with the campground management after the icebreaker has been circulated.

CAMPSITES. Arrangements have been made with the campground management to reserve a large, reasonably flat, grassed area for our group. Our camping area is a large lightly-treed grassed area, within a short walk of the basic amenities block and the lake. Up to 20-25 camper trailers can be set up comfortably without overcrowding. If we have more than that, there are other areas available for those who come later.

CAMPING FEES. A fee of $5 per adult per night is payable. Payment is to be made in cash only to Doug and Jeannie prior to departure and they will be making payment to the campground management in a single payment. There is no charge for children.

CAMPFIRES. We will be having one large central campfire in the fire-pit that is provided. If there is large numbers of members attending it should be noted that cooking on this fire-pit may not be possible due to high demand for space and coals, so please ensure you have alternative cooking facilities with you.

AMENITIES BLOCK. There is an amenities block with ladies & gents toilets and solar hot showers. These facilities are basic and we have been told that hot water runs out fairly quickly so members may want to bring their own camp showers with them if they have them.

FIREWOOD. Arrangements have been made with the campground management to supply our group with trailer-loads of firewood for a minimum cost. The exact cost will be divided by the number of campers attending and payment will be collected at the same time as camping fees.

WATER. Town drinking water is available from taps on site.

RUBBISH. To be placed in garbage bags in the bins provided.

PETS. Dogs permitted, but must be on a leash at all times and responsible owners are expected to clean up after their dogs.

POWER. There are no powered sites.

GENERATORS. Emergency use only. Please check with the host before using.

MOBILE PHONES. Good reception with all carriers.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO. A children’s playground is on site, as is a jetty and boat ramp(dependant on water level) so bring your fishing rods, kayaks and bathers. The campground is only 5 minutes drive from Lismore, which has good facilities (fuel, small supermarket, bakers, café and small shops). There are a number of other attractions and things to do in the area and we hope to have suggestions for several day trips in and around the area of our campground. It is also hoped to arrange a talk on the local area and perhaps a guided tour of nearby Mount Elephant.

While we don’t want to “over-plan” our weekend, there will be a small number of activities planned including a walkabout of members camper trailers on Saturday morning and a communal Mad Hatter’s dinner on Sunday night, where we come together to enjoy each others company while enjoying our dinners (Mad hats will be an expectation!!).

I’m sure the Easter bunny will also visit the children while we’re there. Rest assured though that, above all, it's simply meant to be a relaxing weekend enjoying the area.

Come sit & relax with a bunch of like-minded people. Check the modifications others have done to their camper trailers to make camping life all that more enjoyable. You might meet as complete strangers on the Friday evening, but will part old friends at the end of the meet. You do not need a camper trailer to attend. Members without a camper are more than welcome to come along & get a first-hand unbiased opinion of a particular camper trailer from their owners. Come along & meet the faces behind the typing. You are also very welcome to drop in for the day.

Please keep in mind that the group owners will not accept any responsibility for members & non-members actions during the weekend get together. If you decide to attend, it is solely at your own responsibility, including any side trips or outings during the weekend meet.
