If you wish to attend the get together please add your name to the poll

YOUR HOST for the Melbourne Cup long weekend will be Paul & Annie McDougall.

WHERE. Blackwood Camping Area in the Murrindindi Scenic Reserve, Toolangi State Forest, not far from Healesville.

WHEN. Over the Melbourne Cup long weekend from Saturday 1st to Tuesday 4th November 2008.

CAMPSITES. Blackwood Camping Area is a natural area surrounded by Mountain Ash.

GETTING THERE. Blackwood Camping Area is situated in the northern end of the Toolangi State Forest. If your coming up through Glenburn the turn off is about 7 - 8 km toward Yea from Glenburn and just before Devlins Bridge to the right. Drive down Murrindindi Road and keep going.

There is a turn off about 8km down the road with a sign saying Murrindindi Road turning left. Don't take this turn off but keep going straight ahead past what looks like a saw mill on the right. If the road hasn't turned gravel within 1 km your on the wrong road (as we found out).

The first camping area is the Suspension Bridge camp area and this is where you pay the camping fee at the little hut beside the road. Blackwood camping area is about 100 metres further on with the gate on the left.

THE ROAD. Good dirt road suitable for all vehicles.

CAMPING FEES. $5 a car per night. Please ensure you purchase your camping permit from the permit box situated near the Suspension Bridge Camping Area (see map) before you set up your camp.

BOOKING. Camping is on a first-come first-served basis and no bookings are required.

POWER. There are no powered sites.

CAMPFIRES. Campfires are allowed in existing fireplaces.

FIREWOOD. Dead wood is allowed to be collected, however it will be an advantage if everyone brings some wood along.

WATER. is water available from nearby creek, but it is recommended to bring your own drinking water.

TOILETS. Flushing toilets.

SHOWERS. No showers available.

DOGS. Dogs are not allowed in the park.

RUBBISH. Please take your rubbish with you & leave the camping ground as we have found it.

THINGS TO DO.

Suggestions for the weekend.
Recreational activities such as bushwalking, picnicking, horse riding, fishing and mountain biking.
The reserve encompasses 815 hectares of mixed species forest of the lower reaches of the Murrindindi River and its surrounds. The area comprises a variety of environments, which include tumbling waterfalls, soaring Mountain Ash and damp fern-filled gullies.

Sunday - Walkabout planned for 11am (ish). This gives everyone a chance to view the trailers and set-up of others

and find out what they like about it and maybe what they don't.
We haven’t got anything formal planned for the weekend. There’s lots to see and do in the area, but we’ve found that many people just like to relax.
Treasure Hunt – A treasure hunt activity on the Sunday with prizes awarded.

Any other ideas would be welcome

You do not need a camper trailer to attend. Members without a camper are more than welcome to come along & get a first hand unbiased opinion of a particular camper trailer from their owners. Come along & meet the faces behind the typing.

You are also very welcome to drop in for the day.

Please keep in mind that the group owners will not accept any responsibility for members & non-members actions during the weekend get together.

If you decide to attend, it is solely at your own responsibility, including any side trips or outings during the weekend meet.
