Replacement of axle on cub camper

Post by wmholgate » Fri Apr 01, 2016 6:28 am

Hi
We recently went around queensland pulling a cub kamparoo. We travelled about 12000kms. Half way round i lost a grease cap on a hub and so needed to repack the bearings as we just travelled over 500 km of dirt road. We noticed some bad scoring on the axle and a groove in it. We got it repacked and got home ok but have decided to get the axle replaced.
I will get it done by a professional. It was a 40mm square axle with no brakes as the trailer onle weighs 420kg on rego.

I was wondering if there is much difference between axles or do i need concern myself with this.
I would attach an image of the damaged axle but not sure how to do it.
Thanks
Wayne

Hi Wayne,

The axle stub & bearings should be no less than in perfect condition. Axles come in various widths & with different bearing sizes used http://www.campertrailers.org/axles_bearings.htm

These are the measurements you need when ordering an axle as seen on the Vehicle Components website http://www.vehiclecomponents.com.au/_li ... orm_-_Axle

I would contact Cub & get a price on a direct replacement axle keeping everything stock standard & your bearings the same.

It is a good idea to carry inner & outer bearings, a spare cap & a split pin for each wheel, as well as grease in your camper trailers emergency spares kit.

How to post photos can be seen at http://www.campertrailers.org/group/vie ... p?f=3&t=13
