What weight canvas is best for camper trailer tent?

Post by hutchinsonr » Mon Apr 04, 2016 7:35 pm

We have an old camper trailer with a good trailer and set up. We are looking to buy a new canvas tent to replace the old one.

We are looking to get one made with Australian canvas; yet are a bit unsure of what weight canvas is best for a trailer? Have been told by a local camper trailer maker that 10 0z is best; I previously thought that heavier was better?

Any suggestions?

Hi hutchinsonr,

You will find 10oz walls & a 12oz roof made from Australian canvas is a suitable combination for a camper trailer. It is not too heavy to lift especially with a soft floor camper back onto the trailer & easy to fold.

We had this combination on our Track Trailer Eagle for twenty years & had new canvas made four years ago from 14oz & find it heavy to lift especially when it is wet.

cheers Robcaz,

That makes sense, sounds like a good combination. A bit thicker on the roof because that gives you the rain protection I guess.
