Australian CamperTrailers Group
national meet
Peak Hill
2008
friday lithium
battery technology      Armin Pauza is the
importer of lithium batteries into Australia & was invited to attend the meet to
give members an insight into this new technology.
Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are sure to
revolutionize remote power requirements for camper trailer owners in coming
years by enhancing the amount of power which can be stored in a given size
battery.
Having no lead the lithium batteries are extremely lightweight, around half the
weight of a lead acid with an expected lifespan of up to 20 years &  over 2000
deep discharge cycles life compared to typically around 300 for lead acid. They
also have double the usable capacity of similar amp hour lead acid batteries
with a virtual flat discharge curve which means maximum power is available until
fully discharged. They can be left in a partially discharged state for extended
periods without causing permanent damage
Best of all they are absolutely maintenance free for the life of the battery &
do not contain any toxic heavy metals.    satellite tv
     Alan Grant explained
to members what satellite TV was all about when bush camping. He showed what was
required to set up a system, how to aline the satellite. the channels available,
power supply needed & cost involved. He asserted he was no expert, but hoped he
could help others through his own experiences in using his satellite TV gear.     Advantages include a
near perfect picture, reception available almost anywhere in Australia & range
of channels & programs rather than the one or two from the local town if you
could receive them. Disadvantages could include setup cost, storage of the bulky satellite dish
when travelling &
the need for a determination to overcome frustration in completing the initial
setup.   closing
ceremony      It was sad to see the
week come to a close. Kevin thanked everyone who attended the
CamperTrailers Groups' 4th national meet at Peak Hill & for the support shown to
those who held information workshops.    Tonia Francis the town

came back soon.     Peak Hill preschool teacher
