Australian CamperTrailers
national meet at Wellington
2012
friday
caravan walkabout
The Australian CamperTrailers Group is now
eleven years old & with that members who once owned a camper trailer have
stepped up to a caravan. Kevin Phillips hosted a caravan walkabout. Members gave
a brief talk on what they liked about their caravan, points they didn't like &
modifications they have done or they would like to do to make camping all
that more enjoyable.
finger
knitting with wool for
the kids
Alex & Jill Benham held a workshop to
show the kids how to do knitting with their fingers using wool.
babyQ
cooking demo
Carolyn Davis presented a workshop
cooking with the Weber Baby Q bbq which uses gas as a heat source. A pizza
stone was placed on the grill as a platform to hold the heat & to cook
on. Samples on the cooking were shared around the members present.
writing for
magazines
David Thorndike presented a
workshop with the insights of what was needed if you intended writing for magazines.
Dave was editor of 4WD Camping magazine before moving on to the new Holidays
with Kids magazine. He suggested to plan your trip by making points of interest
you wish to see which would help in taking notes to write around. He then spoke
about the quality of photos, the format & also subject matter.
closing
ceremony
Friday afternoon saw
the closing ceremony. Kevin thanked everyone for their attendance & for the
fantastic time we had over the week, the friendships formed & the positive
feeling of the event. He went on to thank the Wellington Shire Council &
the Wellington Lions whose work behind the scenes provided the platform of
another successful national meet.
The Wellington Shire Mayor Cr
Rod Buhr was on hand to thank once again the Australian CamperTrailers
Group for choosing Wellington & hoped we all had a great time, not only within
the showground, but also exploring the surrounding area.
Lions Club president Duncan Chapman
expressed his pleasure in dealing with such a great group of people. He said he
had fun attending the trivia night & also was on hand over the day on the
Wednesday cooking breakfast & other activities during the day. Duncan then
presented certificates of appreciation thanking the group.
On behalf of the Australian
CamperTrailers Group Rob then handed a sum of $2,281 which was the proceeds of
several fund raising activities held over the week. While he was at it, Rob also
presented the Wellington Lions a certificate of appreciation.
Rob thanked Wellington Council Tourism,
Promotions and Media Liaison officer Sharon Toynton for her hard work behind the
scenes & also for the Wellington treasure hunt she had put together. Sharon
announced Darryl & Barb Walker as the winner of this activity which helped
everyone browse the sights of Wellington.
Rob then thanked those who had presented
workshops or activities during the week & personally gave them a certificate of
appreciation.
Next was the raffle
ticket draw. A big thanks once again to Alan & Amanda Haworth for donating the four
engraved locks & plastic coated lanyards as prizes. The tickets were drawn
by Davis Haworth. The winners were Chris Rogers, Mal Currey, Ed & Trish & Shane
Worth.
Spirit of the Group is awarded to a
person who is brought to the attention of the CamperTrailers Group co-owners for
a good hearted deed or his generosity in helping others during the week long
meet. Jenny Peisley was nominated several times for comforting Brenda at the
hospital after Ian had a heart attack & organizing for their camper to be packed
up & taken to her place. This is one of many times Jenny has shown her
generosity since joining the group several years ago. Unfortunately Jenny could
not be in attendance at the closing as she was looking after her grandson who
had a broken leg. Rob dropped in on her at home in Dubbo & presented her with the perpetual trophy.
Wellington Wallys is awarded
to the funniest or most embarrassing moment over the week. This years award goes
to Narelle Bretherton who enjoyed taking photos first thing in the morning of
fellow campers defrosting around the fire on her new Ipad. Later when sharing
her wonderful technology it was discovered she had neglected to remove the cover
from in front of the camera resulting in lots of wonderful red photos to share,
much to the enjoyment of nearby campers.
Jason then announced
that we had been in consultation with the town of Batlow in the NSW Southern
Highlands & the Ausstralian CamperTrailers Groups' 9th national meet would be
held in the Batlow Showground over the week from Monday 30th September 2013.
With that Kevin
declared the 8th national meet closed & hoped to see everyone again next year.
See ya all next year.
