The Friday afternoon closing ceremony
was held on the lawn next to the pavilion. Kevin Phillips thanked everyone
for their attendance, the fantastic time had, the
friendships formed or renewed & the positive feedback from
members. He went on to also thank the Eugowra community for the
hospitality shown during the week & in particular Kevin Townsend
for looking after the amenities.
Rob Sanderson then thanked those
who had presented workshops or activities during the week & gave each a certificate of
appreciation. It was the last time Dave & Jan Cook along with Dave
& Joy Wilkinson would be hosting the popular trivia night since
it began at the Nyngan national meet in 2009, so a special thank you went to
them.
Lindsay Baker read a poem he had written about the national meet
closing.
Until
Next Time
There was movement in the showground
For our stay is nearly done
It’s almost time to say goodbye
Before the homeward run
These campers are a strange lot
It might just take a while
They’re very easily side tracked
Got something to do with lifestyle
Some didn’t just come straight here
They stopped along the way
To find some new adventure
Meet old friends and say “G’day”
We had a great time here together
Sat around the fire and had a few ales
We’ve had a little quiet time
And listened to quite a few tales
But now it’s time to hit the road
More camping to be done
Because Kevin, Rob and Jason’s work
Has only just begun
They have a little secret
A well-kept one for sure
The town where we will meet next year
In 2024

Spirit of the Group Award is awarded to a
person who is brought to the attention of the CamperTrailers Group co-owners for
a good hearted deed or generosity helping others during the week
long meet. This year the award was presented to Jan Cook who
was always there to help others. Jason Cox presented her with the
perpetual Spirit of the
Group Award.
The Eugowra Wallys Award is for the funniest or most
embarrassing moment during the week. This year there were two
awards & the first time a member of the community was
nominated.
A big thank you goes to Peter for watering the gravel road with
the water truck to keep dust down owing to the large volume of
harness racing traffic coming into the showground on the Sunday
for the trials. Sunday evening Rob was sitting at
his camper trailer & looked up, only to see a wall of water
coming towards him. There was no time to move & he copped the full stream
from the chest down. Apparently Peter flicked his lights on &
accidently hit the switch next to the lights, or so he said.
Some said he had been paid to wet Rob down.
The CamperTrailers Group Eugowra Wallys Award went to Craig Quin. Craig offered
to help Carol Brown set up Keith's chair. After four or five
attempts he left it & walked away. Kim walked up & fixed it
in no time.
Eugowra Show Society
President Sean Haynes & committee was on hand to receive the
camping fees & thanked everyone for choosing Eugowra as the venue
for the groups 17th national meet.
Kevin handed over $9,385 to Sean Haynes who represented the
Eugowra Flood Appeal. This was the total of the $7,672
raised at the auction night, $543 trivia night gold coin entry,
$469 from the raffle, $210 from the pizza profits, $139 knife sharpening
from Roger Duck, $62 Mal & Ros's
secondhand book sales, plus $500 donations from members.
Sean drew the four winning tickets of the
raffle. First out was
Barry Pierce followed by Richelle Roberts & Keith Brown.
George Mavros presented $500 on behalf of the Ross Hutchison
Foundation to Bozena Goleziowsk representing the Eugowra Country Womens
Association. The Foundation has donated five truck loads of
household goods to the town since the flood. Bozena
presented George with a jam, pickle & cookbook hamper to thank
him for the foundations support. George decided to draw another
raffle ticket for the hamper which was won by Barry Pierce.
Ray Halgath could not attend & donated $300 to the Eugowra
Hospital Auxiliary.
Rob told the story of how members Lindsay & Sandra had taken home a large
firewood log from the 2012 Wellington national meet & then took it along to the
members Flinders South Australian week long meet hosted by Mike Fretwell in May 2013. After
the log was burnt,
affectionately known as 'Big Bertha', it was decided the ashes should be taken
to the Batlow national meet where it would be presented to the Groups co-owners
at the opening ceremony. In the meantime Phil Reid had turned an 'ashes' replica
urn on his lathe to hold the remains. Since then ashes from
all
national meets have been added. Rob then added the ashes of the Eugowra
campfires to the urn.
Jason then announced to those
present that Mendooran in Central New South
Wales would be the venue of the Australian CamperTrailers
Group's 18th national meet from Monday 30th September to Friday 4th
October 2024.
With that Kevin
declared the 17th national meet closed & hoped to see everyone again next year
at Mendooran NSW.
