17th national meet at Eugowra NSW

Australian CamperTrailers Group
2023 national get together
at Eugowra NSW

the week

workshops & activities

The workshops & events began from the Monday after lunch with members & invited guests hosting a number of workshops on a variety of subjects relating to camper trailers, travel & camping in general. Being an internet based group there are subjects where the information cannot be easily exchanged through typing & this is where the national meet gives the perfect opportunity for face to face workshops.

George Mavros presented a workshop introducing members to the use of CPAP’s with Rob Sanderson showing how to select settings on a CPAP for reduced 12volt power consumption. Michael Hann demonstrated the ‘Cuddy’ no water portable toilet, Kevin Phillips gave a talk on using lithium batteries when camping, while BEST Water Filters Colin Hopgood spoke of how to obtain quality drinking water when travelling. Rob & Carol hosted a 'show & tell' session.

Carol Sanderson showed the ins & outs of the thermal cooker while preparing the evening meal one evening. Gus & Jill Skinner showed interested members how the Cobb Cooker is used like a camp oven with heat beads as the heat source.

The ladies were well catered for this year with Carol Sanderson hosting the always popular ladies 'cuppa & chat'. Carol also hosted a ladies craft ‘show & tell’ afternoon tea & Penny Heath presented a mosaic crochet workshop.

George Mavros & Keith Brown hosted a ‘poets corner’ including a couple of songs from Keith on the guitar.

Always of interest are newer models recently purchased by members. Dave Cook hosted a camper trailer walkabout while Kevin Phillips hosted a caravan & motorhome walkabout.

Christine Male from Blaze Aid spoke of how the volunteer-based organisation worked with families & individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods. This was followed by a slide show presented by the Eugowra community showing the devastation when flood water swept through town only twelve months before.

During Sunday members were treated to qualifying heats for the Eugowra Canola Cup harness racing carnival which was being held on the following Monday during the long weekend.

The auction night is always a fun evening as members bid on various items. This year saw 114 items donated by members & local businesses. Auctioneer Paul Green provided plenty of entertainment throughout the evening. $7,672 was raised with proceeds donated to the Eugowra Flood Appeal. A solar powered cutting saw donated by George Mavros reached $1,000.

Auction Night

Auction night Eugowra 2023
Needed help from some mates for Rob Sanderson and me
We had a surprise item
to raise $600 was the goal you see
But through the support of so many
I realised we could achieve a greater deed
Enlisted Jill Skinner
As a wonderful partner in crime
Hatched a brilliant or dangerous plan
The answer - we would only find out in time
Quinn he got us started
With loud $5 bark
Almost was insulting
But it got us off to a start
$150 came a roaring bid
Soon the others started to fly
Auctioneer he looked surprised
But when it past $700
You could see the shock within his eyes
Colliers marriage tested
As Barry yelled $925
Elaine tried to stop him
$950 came from Mavros
Barry back in at $975
Some say if he had bid again - she’d have smacked him between the eyes
Silenced the crowd a moment
Auctioneer he called it twice
A look around - a hush
People wondering is this the end
Then $1,000 came the winning bid
From Jill Skinner my trusty friend
Knocked down
Sold
Many were surprised
But none as much as Gus
The horror in his eyes
I raced up there to see them
I said “how good is she”
The edited response from Gus
With eyes glazed
“I’m friggin Shell Shocked”
Was all he could give to me
Tonight was more than an auction
It was more than a lot of fun
It was people coming together
Having fun and joyful sport
Showing combined we can have fun
Whilst to Eugowra
We say - You we support

George Mavros

The popular trivia night hosted by Dave & Jan Cook along with Mal & Ros Currey was well attended once again. The perpetual trivia trophy is held by the winning team. Entry was by gold coin donation which resulted in $543 donated to the Eugowra Flood Appeal.

There were several tours of the nearby Central West Granite Mill during the week. The Australian CamperTrailers Group’s 17th national meet sticker featured Eugowra granite as the background. There are almost 23,000 individual slabs of local granite used to clad the curved exterior walls of Parliament House in Canberra.

Roger Duck offered to sharpen anything with an edge for a gold coin donation. Roger was able to add $139 to the Eugowra Flood Appeal total.

During the week there was a bear hunt organised by Mark & Fiona with grandsons Hunter & Phoenix.
